"There will be no Led Zeppelin Tour" - apparently

How crap! Ofcourse we can still hope after the gig they change thier mind, but apparently, Robert Plant has ruled out the chances of a Led Zeppelin Tour following the one-off gig.

It had been hoped that the band would extended their one-off show at London’s O2 Arena on November 26th to allow more people to see the veteran rockers make their comeback.

Plant has now definitely ruled out the prospect of more dates, however, saying: “We need to do one last great show, because we’ve done some shows and they’ve been crap.”

The frontman also told the Daily Express that he’s planning to take it easy after the tribute show for Ahmet Ertegun.

“I know I’m getting on. When I do come back from touring I’m shocked to find a lot of my mates tend to be going to bed far too early and that means I should probably be doing the same. Maybe I should stop having a good time and get old,” the singer confessed.

Almost twenty million people applied for tickets to the band’s show in London. Successful applicants will be notified by October 1st.

Alot of people seem to be asking...

And i’m kinda interested too!

Has anyone been notified about the ballot yet? I know they said by october the 1st, but that gives lee-way for them to get the notifications out before the deadline.

Of course, i imagine it would be all over the news if people got tickets yet.

Besides! i havent got my email yet, so they cant have been sent out (well, atleast i can try and be positive, maybe it’ll be the first time i ever win something substancial in my life!)

Let me know if you get tickets!

Dave Grohl Speaks about the Led Zeppelin reunion.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has spoken of his desire to play drums for the newly reformed Led Zeppelin.

The star explained to that he is “at their beck and call,” should they want to get in touch about performing with him.

“Ah, if I got that call, what the f–k do you think I’d be saying?” Grohl said. “I’d say, ‘Hey [Foo Fighters bandmates] Chris and Taylor, let’s take a little break for a few days, I’ll see ya later!’ But I don’t expect that to happen.”

Grohl explained that, although getting to play with Led Zeppelin would be unlikely, he would at least be trying to get into the band’s forthcoming gig at London’s O2 Arena on November 26.

He also acknowledged the contribution of Jason Bonham, son of original Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, who would perform with the band at the gig.

“Jason should be the one,” he said. “Everyone knows that. He’s a f–king phenomenal drummer.”

My opinion on this news is simple. Although Jason is flesh and blood of John Bonham. Dave Grohl is, in my opinion (and many other peoples) The best rock drummer of this decade!

I would like to see Dave play with Zeppelin, as it would bring a whole new dimension to the Zeppelin sound. not that Jason wouldnt, but Jason has been there and done it before. Grohl would be my number one candidate to play the gig, or atleast if there are any other gigs.

Bring in Grohl.

My oh My...

It seems i have been neglecting the website just a tad.

well, it seems not alot else is happening at the moment. its that tense period between applying for tickets, and waiting to see if you are one of the “lucky ones".

There are still rumours flying around about a belfast show, and well, not alot else.

I’d consider this time period to be the calm before the storm.

As soon as October 1st comes around, the internet will be a hive of excitement as those who get thier tickets shout and rejoice about the fact, and those that dont get tickets scream and shout that they didnt get tickets.

either way, sounds like it could be fun.

More Gigs on the Horizon?

Well, after a small search it seems that people are rumouring that Robert Plant is trying to lead the band to do more consequent gigs after the 02 reunion.

From The Belfast Telegraph:

Singer Robert Plant wants to bring legendary rockers Led Zeppelin back to Belfast - where the band first played their classic hit Stairway to Heaven in the spring of 1971.

The band, wich is playing a one-off gig in London in tribute to its mentor - Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun - will take advantage of the reunion to plan a trip to the Ulster Hall where fans first heard Stairway to Heaven 36 years ago.

Led Zeppelin, whose other big hits included Whole Lotta Love and The Immigrant Song, were in town in ‘71 for the late Jim Aiken when they first played Stairway to Heaven. It was the reaction here that persuaded them to record it for an album when they returned to London.

Plant is eager to persuade the other originals, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, to step back in time with him. The band split in 1980 after the tragic death of John Bonham, whose son Jason will take over on drums.

Plant knows that, on the 25th anniversary of the Stairway to Heaven date in March 1996, there was a reunion of fans at the Ulster Hall which attracted a huge crowd of the Zeppelin faithful.

“Zeppelin have always been favourites in Belfast since that memorable night in ‘71,” said U105 presenter Ivan Martin. “And a return to Belfast for the band all these years later would be a smash hit. Aiken Promotions are the natural people to help Robert Plant make it happen.”

It has even been suggested that, when the Ulster Hall reopens in November 2008 after refurbishment, a Led Zeppelin concert would be the natural curtain-raiser. Stairway to Heaven is one of the best-known rock anthems ever, although it was never released as a single. It was written by Plant (lyrics) and Page (melody) and there are cover versions by everyone from Dolly Parton to Rolf Harris.

Led Zeppelin’s gig at the O2 Arena in London marks their first time together in 19 years.

What do you think?

Stairway in Belfast, or Dreamers in the Newsroom?

Deadline extended?

According to Rolling Stone the deadline for getting registered into the “lottery” for tickets has been extended until Wednesday, September 17th.

Thier figures state that so far, over 25 million people filled out ballots with hopes of securing one of the 20,000 £125 tickets for the November 26th show.

Lets take a second to recap figures:

There are 20,000 tickets available
£125 each
25 million applicants (so far)
2 tickets available per applicant

So there are going to be

49,980,000+ dissapointed fans :(

Of those who do get tickets thier money (totalling £250,000) will go to the Ahmat Ertegun Education Fund.

A fun date methinks.

So Why the Reunion?

Well According to NME.COM this is why:

Led Zeppelin have spoken about why they are playing their first gig in 19 years this November.

The band will play the O2 Arena in London on November 26.

The show is a tribute for Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.

Speaking at the press conference it was explained that the reunion came about after the band were contacted by the late record mogul’s wife.

Promoter Harvey Goldsmith explained that she and him had written the band an “emotive letter” asking them to play.

Despite initially expressing doubts, the band rehearsed in June and immediately decided to play a full, two-hour gig rather than a proposed half-hour set.

Paying tribute to Ertegun, Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant declared: “During the Zeppelin years, Ahmet Ertegun was a major foundation of solidarity and accord. For us he was and remained a close friend and conspirator - this performance stands alone as our tribute to the work and the life of our long standing friend.”

Who Knew after all this time all it would take was an emotive letter, and getting them into the same room to jam!

well, maybe not, maybe Ahmet Ertegun’s passing away had something to do with it.

but still. its been a long time coming. Lets hope it stands up to the standards held for Zeppelin.

Half Hour Set?

Just heard on the radio that it was planned for Led Zeppelin to only do a 30 minute set at the gig, but they have enjoyed practising together so much that they are now to do a 2 hour set.

I was gob smacked that they even entertained the idea of only doing a 30 minute show to be honest. £125 and only 30 mins of seeing the band that you are there for. I acknowledge that it is for charity, but 30 minutes would be taking the Michael just a little bit in my opinion.

Suffice to say from what I heard on the radio, a recording of one of the members saying how they were enjoying the jamming together that they will do a longer set of 2 hours.

Then again, this isn’t taking into account that the 3 remaining members are not getting any younger… will they be able to re-capture the magic, and if so, for how long?

could they pull off a 2 hour set without it becoming very messy to watch? would they still have the energy to perform well for so long? we all know Led Zeppelin are known for their stage shows and the movement and energy on stage. will this be something to look forward to?

only time will tell.

20 Million People Applied...

From what I hear, 20 million people have registered thus far to get tickets for the Led Zeppelin gig at the o2 arena. No big surprise really, considering people all over the globe would travel to see this one-off gig!

so that kinda makes odds up to now of getting tickets 1000/1. and there’s still more time for people to register.

a scary thought perhaps.

Also, Any tickets that appear on ebay will be disregarded and not allowed into the gig, they will be CANCELLED. So don’t even bother.

if you don’t want to go, then don’t register, there’s plenty of other people after tickets who would do anything to go, don’t exploit it. after all, it is for charity lest we forget.

Just been listening to Kerrang! Radio in the car on the way home, and it seems like the broadcasters are a bit clueless, so just to clear things up;

The Ahmat Website IS ONLINE! it just keeps falling over due to the demand of people trying to get onto it, it does work, but i was trying for 45 minutes to get registered for the gig, so if you want to get registered, then keep trying, or leave it a day or 2 for the rush to calm down.

The Public Ballot ends on OCTOBER 1st, which is when the lucky people will get notified that they can purchase tickets. so theres no imminent rush just yet to get registered, but make sure you do it within the week… keep trying at different times of the day!

I got my confirmation email and it reads:

Thank you for registering for Ahmet Tribute tickets.

If successful you will be contacted by email by the 1st October and will be given information on how to purchase at this time.

For all other information please see FAQ’s provided on our website

Thank you

Obviously with such high demand though the FAQ’s wont be accessible, but it will die down (eventually).

So yes, the website is online, but because of demand it looks like it is none exsistant.

Confirmation email...

Thank you very much… after nearly an hour of trying I have my confirmation email, and thank you for registering.

Phew, thought I was never going to get there for a second.

Lucky fans will find out on October the 1st whether or not they are successful or not.

Lets hope I am one of the successful ones! Could be a life changing experience for anyone that sees it.

Do the BBC know something the world doesnt?

I’m sitting here, scouring the internet for more updates about the rumoured gig, and i notice the BBC at 14:33pm updated thier news about Zeppelin, stating that “Singer Robert Plant, guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones, will reunite for the one-off show at the O2 arena in London on 26 November.”

So what do they know already?

I thought that the press conference was at 4pm, not 2:30pm. How are they so sure that it “will” be held?

Apparently, “Tickets will be allocated by public ballot, and cost £125.", Also according to the BBC.

Where are they getting thier information? is it true? £125 per ticket?

I know for sure i would pay it, but where did they get that figure? they list no source for where they are getting thier information.

They also list Pete Townshend and Bill Wyman as support acts for the night.

More info to come shortly…

So Todays The Press Conference.

So Today is the day Led Zeppelin have called the press conference. So, what do we expect?

Considering that possibly every year since the demise of drummer John Bonham, people have speculated of a tour, or reunion gig. Could this be just another rumour that got everyone’s backs up, and thus causing publicity for the forthcoming releases in November previously stated?

Well, Possibly.

At first I was very excited to hear the news about the band possibly getting back together for a gig at the O2 arena, but maybe, its all an elaborate plot to get more sales of the releases coming up, create a big hype, chart again, and lead the public on for another year. Of course, it isn’t Led Zeppelin leading people on, its the media hyping everything.

Certain sources mention Robert Plant confirming a one-off reunion gig, but maybe they are taking something that RP said, and taking it out of context? Its been known many times before, and everyone knows the media love a good story, as they will get readers.

Think of how many Led Zeppelin fans there are in the world which would love the rumours to come to fruition, stories like this, sell magazines, it sells papers, and it makes for great TV. But ultimately its all based on hearsay.

I eagerly await the press conference later today, but ultimately, I can see it will just be regarding the releases in November. I hope it is for a reunion, although as previously stated, even if it went ahead, I doubt I’d get a ticket, but I really do hope they hit the stage again.

Talk of a Led Zeppelin reunion just refuses to go away.

Talk of a Led Zeppelin reunion just refuses to go away.

Billboard reported in July that the band may get together for a proposed tribute to the late producer/record mogul Ahmet Ertegun at the O2 in London in November (Billboard, Aug. 4).

Now on the date 11.13.07 mysteriously appears with the familiar Zep symbols. And several people saw the band touring the O2 during Prince’s recent stand at the new 20,000-seat London arena. A press conference next Wednesday (Sept. 12) in London may clear everything up.

There has been talk that tour producers AEG Live and Michael Cohl’s CPI (Rolling Stones, Genesis, Barbra Streisand) have put in offers on a Zep tour featuring founding members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones with late drummer John “Bonzo” Bonham’s son Jason on drums. But it is also well-known in the industry that standing offers have been on the table for a Led Zeppelin tour for more than a decade.

Nov. 13 also has another significance: it’s the drop date of a new Atlantic/Rhino two-disc, 24-track best-of set, “Mothership.” Additionally, a deluxe reissue of the soundtrack to the 1976 concert film “The Song Remains the Same” with previously unreleased material and a new DVD edition of that movie will arrive Nov. 20 via Atlantic/Rhino and Warner Home Video, respectively.
